1. Get high page ranking in organic search results
When you do a search on for example Google, you will get results that are relevant to the keywords you typed in. The organic search results are those listed on the left hand side of the search results. It is completely free to get your site listed in there, however it also takes some time and effort. The more relevant the content on your website, the higher site will rank in the search results.
2. Create backlinks
A backlink is a hyperlink placed on a website that links to your domain name. If somebody clicks on the link they will end up on your website. Google is using various techniques to follow these links and determine how high it should position your website in the organic search results. Having quality back-links from sites that already have a high page rank will also rank your site higher.
3. Using PPC (pay per click)
Let's take Google for example. If you are using PPC your site will be ranked on the first page and all the way on top, and on the right hand side of the organic search results. You pay an x amount of money to the search engine provider every time someone clicks on the link to your website. This way of promoting your website takes less effort, however if you are not using the right strategy it might cost you a lot of money without the expected results.
