11 people killed in Mexico violence

Mexico City : Eleven people were killed in separate incidents of violence in the northern Mexican state of Tamaulipas, authorities have said. The bodies were found in the towns of Jimenez and San Fernando Friday, an official said.

One of those killed in San Fernando, the scene in August of a massacre of 72 undocumented migrants trying to reach the US, was Marco Samuel Herrera Rangel, the director of municipal public works there, the official said. In Jimenez, 97 km away from state capital Ciudad Victoria, five men were found dead near a gas station. Three bodies were found in a car and two others lying at around 200 metres from the vehicle.

Tamaulipas Governor Eugenio Hernandez Flores acknowledged Friday that governments in some of the state’s municipalities have been overwhelmed amid a fierce turf war between the Gulf and Los Zetas drug cartels.

The drug-related violence in Mexico has claimed nearly 30,000 lives nationwide in the past four years, including 10,000 this year.source(IANS/EFE)
