She is stuck in a wheelchair for the time being, after she got hurt while performing in Singapore, only last week. The 41-year-old singer took a nasty tumble, which made her get stuck to the wheelchair while performing ”Make It Happen’’. She has been performing this song to a packed audience at the formula one event that took place this Saturday night. The singer who was rumored to be pregnant flew to Singapore, only to perform at the Singtel F1 event. However, it seemed that fate wanted it in another way.

Two days, after she took the tumble, Mariah was seen by many people, being pushed around in wheelchair at the Los Angeles” LAX Airport. She was being escorted in the wheelchair to her limo. She was flanked by her entourage that carried her baggage. We are sure that several fans of this pop diva would be anxious and troubled, after knowing about this ‘broken’ incident. Ironically, this incident took place while she was singing “Make It Happen”; we are guessing that she didn’t specify what should be made happening!

Mariah Carey’s representative Cindi Berger said that the song tress twisted her ankle while in Singapore and should have wore more levelheaded shoes, but she didn’t have any. Amazing Peugeot Presents all Electric EX1 Roadster

As the Paris Motor Show is around the corner, the list of vehicles unwrapped before their premier is getting longer. The latest one is from French carmaker, Peugeot.

The brand has unveiled an all electric, all wheel drive EX1 concept, powered by one electric motor per axle, each supplying 170bhp and a constant 177lb ft of torque. Electric motors get the vital juice from 30kWh of lithium ion batteries onboard.


The concept has been created as a celebration to mark the Marque’s 200th anniversary. The EX1, as per Peugeot, will be able to hit 0-100km/h in well under 3.0 sec at its optimum settings.

This all-carbon fiber two-seater roadster weighs just less than 1000kg and measures only 0.9m in height and 1.77 m in width, its length has not been specified.

Peugeot EX1 electric racer has been built to push the boundaries of electric vehicle performance and has already dispatched a standing quarter mile in 14.4sec, a standing kilometre in 28.16sec and a standing mile in 41.09sec at the Linas-Montlhery autodrome. Also, a number of other timed acceleration runs which, if confirmed by the FIA, will make it the world’s fastest accelerating EV over six different distances.

The other features of the vehicle include two sport bucket seats, a carbon fiber passenger cell, a harness and a safety cell which has been designed to also offer the roll-over protection. Amazing Male Infertility Gene Discovered

London: A faulty gene could help explain some cases of unexplained male infertility, according to research. Mutations of the NR5A1 gene were found in a small percentage of infertile men, reports the American Journal of Human Genetics. Scientists from the Pasteur Institute in France and University College London said it could help doctors investigating men with the condition.

A UK expert said he hoped that further gene defects could be found. In the majority of cases, doctors can find no cause for male infertility, despite it accounting for up to half of cases in which couples have difficulty conceiving.

Male infertility appears to be more common within certain families, and this leads scientists to believe that there may be a genetic root for some cases, but only a handful of gene mutations which might be responsible have actually been found. The latest research looks at a gene already known to be involved in sexual development in both men and women - defects in NR5A1 have been linked to physical defects in the development of the testicles or ovaries.

Their findings suggest that, even where there is no physical evidence of a problem, defects in the gene may be hampering the ability to make sperm. They looked at the gene in 315 apparently healthy men who had an unexplained inability to produce sperm.

From this group, they found mutations in the gene in just seven, and closer examination revealed the men had altered levels of sex hormones and, in one case, mild abnormalities in the cellular structure of the testicles. The research authors, from the UCL Institute of Child Health in London and the Institut Pasteur in Paris, said: "We conclude that approximately 4% of men with otherwise unexplained failure to produce sperm carry mutations in the NR5A1 gene." Although the find would affect only a small proportion of infertile men, other specialists believe that other similar discoveries could help build up a clearer picture of the origins of the condition.

Dr Allan Pacey, a senior lecturer in andrology at the University of Sheffield, said that there was still "embarrassingly little" known about the genetics behind male infertility. "Given the complexity of the sperm production process it is likely that many genes are involved and therefore that may gene defects linked to infertility may be found. "Although this gene defect affects only a small number of men, we need more studies like this so that we can fill in the gaps in our knowledge and possibly one day build a robust diagnostic test for male fertility based on genetics."Via: BBC News

Sleeping With Parents Is To Dangerous For babies

Melbourne: A new study has revealed that it is highly risky for young babies to sleep in the same bed as their parents. But South Australian Coroner Mark Johns said young babies could benefit from sleeping in the same room with their mother and father, the extra stimulation reducing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

The statement came after an inquest into the deaths of five young babies in South Australia between July 2007 and November 2008. In one case an autopsy concluded a month-old baby girl had suffocated after becoming trapped between the cushion and the back of a couch after falling asleep with her father. “The message to be drawn from these five tragic deaths is that the risk of sudden, unexplained death in infancy is greatly increased where a child sleeps in the same bed with one or more parents or other adults, whether the mechanism of death is asphyxia due to overlaying, bedding or otherwise,” News.com.au quoted Johns as saying.

In the west adults were sharing soft, high beds with young babies and covering themselves with doonas or blankets. “What we’ve done in the west is we’ve made co-sleeping dangerous,” forensic pathologist Roger Byard said. Because of their age children were unable to rescue themselves from a dangerous situation, such as if their nose and mouth were covered, he said. Although there were advantages to co-sleeping, including enhanced bonding between parent and child and assistance with breastfeeding and settling, the best approach was to have a baby sleep in a well constructed cot with a firm mattress and for the cot to be placed in the parents’ bedroom, he said. Washington: Teenagers don’t drink or do drugs simply out of rebellion or emotional troubles - they do so to look cool - says a new study. “Our study highlights a correlation between popularity and consumption,” said Jean-Sebastien Fallu at the Universit de Montr al’s School of Psychoeducation. “The teenagers we studied were well-accepted, very sensitive to social codes, and understood the compromises that it takes to be popular,” she added.

The study findings showed an increase in consumption, as the child got older regardless of their popularity level. However, the more popular a child and their friends were, the greater this consumption was. There was a two-fold between increase between ages 10 and 15 for the most popular kids who also had very popular friends. “Teenagers don’t consume to belong to the group or to increase their popularity level, they do it to remain well-liked. Amazing Blueberries Could Help Fight Hardening of the 'Arteries

Washington, : Start eating blueberries if you have atherosclerosis, for the humble fruit can actually help fight artery hardening associated with the disease, revealed a study with laboratory mice. The research provides the first direct evidence that blueberries can help prevent harmful plaques or lesions, symptomatic of atherosclerosis, from increasing in size in arteries.

Principal investigator Xianli Wu, based in Little Rock, Ark., with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center and with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, led the investigation. Atherosclerosis is the leading cause of two forms of cardiovascular disease–heart attacks and strokes. Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of Americans.

The study compared the size, or area, of atherosclerotic lesions in 30 young laboratory mice. Half of the animals were fed diets spiked with freeze-dried blueberry powder for 20 weeks; the diet of the other mice did not contain the berry powder. Lesion size, measured at two sites on aorta (arteries leading from the heart), was 39 and 58 percent less than that of lesions in mice whose diet did not contain blueberry powder.

Earlier studies, conducted elsewhere, have suggested that eating blueberries may help combat cardiovascular disease. But direct evidence of that effect has never been presented previously, according to Wu. The blueberry-spiked diet contained 1 percent blueberry powder, the equivalent of about a half-cup of fresh blueberries.

All mice in the investigation were deficient in apolipoprotein-E, a trait, which makes them highly susceptible to forming atherosclerotic lesions and thus an excellent model for biomedical and nutrition research. Wu’s group wants to determine the mechanism or mechanisms by which blueberries helped control lesion size. For example, by boosting the activity of four antioxidant enzymes, blueberries may have reduced the oxidative stress that is a known risk factor for atherosclerosis.

In follow-up studies, Wu’s group wants to determine whether eating blueberries in infancy, childhood and young adulthood would help protect against onset and progression of atherosclerosis in later years. Early prevention may be especially important in light of the nation’s epidemic of childhood obesity. Overweight and obesity increase atherosclerosis risk. According to Octuri the aircraft features a Recchia & Husser engine, 2 propellers in its tail and 2 lateral panels that can flip over horizontally, thus turning into 2 small pontoons. Because of the sliding canopy, the cockpit can become completely open.

Horrible Thousands of Nigerian Women 'Found in Mali Slave Camps'

Nigerian girls are being forced to work as prostitutes in Mali "slave camps", say officials in Nigeria. The girls, many of them under age, have often been promised jobs in Europe but ended up in brothels, said the government's anti-trafficking agency. The brothels are run by older Nigerian women who prevent them from leaving and take all their earnings.

The agency said it was working with Malian police to free the girls and help them return to Nigeria. There has been no official comment from the Mali authorities. Nigeria's National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (Naptip) said officials visited Mali this month to follow up "horrendous reports" from victims, aid workers and clergy in Mali. They said there were hundreds of brothels, each housing up to 200 girls, run by Nigerian "madams" who force them to work against their will and take their earnings.

"We are talking of thousands and thousands of girls," Simon Egede, Executive Secretary of Naptip, told a news conference in Abuja. "We are talking of certainly between 20,000 and about 40,000," he said, but did not give details of how the figure had been reached. In a statement, Mr Egede said girls were "held in bondage for the purposes of forced sexual exploitation and servitude or slavery-like practices". "The madams control their freedom of movement, where they work, when they work and what they receive," he said.
Abortion clinics

The trade is centred around the capital Bamako and large cities, but the most notorious brothels are in the mining towns of Kayes and Mopti, where the sex workers live in "near slavery condition", said Naptip. Many of the brothels there also had abortion clinics where foetuses were removed by traditional healers for use in rituals, said Mr Egede.

Most of the girls were reported to have come from Delta and Edo States in Nigeria. Many were lured with the promise of work in Europe, given fake travel documents and made to swear an oath that they would not tell anyone where they were going. On arrival in Mali they were told they would have to work as prostitutes to pay off their debts. Prostitution is legal in Mali but not if it involves minors.

Naptip said it had also uncovered two major trafficking routes used to transport the women from Nigeria through Benin, Niger or Bukina Faso to Mali. Mr Egede said Naptip was working with the police in Mali to return the girls to Nigeria safely, shut down the trade and prosecute the traffickers.

The BBC's Caroline Duffield in Lagos said the Edo State region of Nigeria in particular had become notorious for prostitution, with thousands of women and girls leaving every year to make money as sex workers. But the suggestion that there was an organised ring of older women operating as traffickers - and that they were tricking younger women into leaving - was new, said our correspondent.BBC News
